Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto for BMW 3 Series (F30)

Vehicle-specific retrofit kits for the F30, F31, F34 and F35 3 Series. Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto with the iDrive controller, factory audio and parking sensors fully retained.

BMW 3 Series F30 dashboard with a 10.25-inch Linux screen running wireless CarPlay

A vehicle-specific retrofit kit for BMW 3 Series F30 / F31 / F34 / F35 (2012–2019) that adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while keeping the factory iDrive, display and audio system fully working.

The kit connects behind the factory head unit through a plug-and-play T-harness — nothing is cut, spliced or coded. The iDrive controller, touchpad (where fitted), steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifier, microphone and parking sensors all keep working, and because the installation is fully reversible the car can be returned to stock at any time. Choose a hidden CarPlay interface that keeps the original display, a 10.25-inch or 12.3-inch factory-style Linux screen, or a Qualcomm-powered Android screen.

Owners of the earlier E90 / E91 / E92 / E93 3 Series (2005–2012) are covered too — see the BMW & MINI brand page for the full fitment list.

Three ways to upgrade

Keep the factory screen, or go bigger

Every route keeps iDrive, the steering-wheel buttons and the original audio path working.

CarPlay interface — keep your screen

A hidden module behind the dash adds wireless CarPlay and Android Auto to the original F30 display. Nothing visible changes; the car looks factory from the outside and inside.

Linux screen — factory-style upgrade

Replace the 6.5" or 8.8" display with a 10.25" or 12.3" factory-fit Linux screen. Boots in seconds, keeps every factory function, and looks like it was fitted at the plant.

Android screen — full flexibility

A Qualcomm-powered Android display with wireless CarPlay, Android Auto and native Android apps when parked. Choose 10.25" or 12.3" for the F30 platform.

Also available for the F30: a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster (part AL-8613) that replaces the analogue dials while keeping the factory HUD support.
Step one

Identify your iDrive system

The kit you need depends entirely on which head unit is fitted. Two F30s that look identical can take different parts.

SystemProduction yearsFactory screenWhat it means for you
NBT2012 – 20166.5" / 8.8"The most common F30 platform. Tile-style iDrive menu, no factory touchscreen.
NBT EVO (ID5 / ID6)2016 – 20196.5" / 8.8" / 10.25"Late F30 and LCI cars. Horizontally scrolling menu, optional touchscreen.

Not sure which one you have? The quickest check is the iDrive menu design: NBT EVO uses the newer ID5 / ID6 layout with large horizontal tiles, while NBT uses the older grid. If you are still unsure, send us a photo of your screen and menu through the contact page and we will confirm the exact part within one business day.

Installation

What fitting an F30 kit involves

Typical workshop time: 1.5 – 3 hours depending on the option chosen.

1

Remove the trim

The display surround and a few trim panels come off with plastic tools. No drilling, no cutting.

2

Connect the T-harness

The kit harness plugs between the factory head unit and the original wiring. Every connector is keyed — it only fits one way.

3

Fit the module or screen

The interface hides behind the dash; a replacement screen mounts on the original brackets using factory fixings.

4

Test and refit

CarPlay, Android Auto, cameras, steering-wheel buttons and the original iDrive menu are tested before the trim goes back.

A vehicle-specific installation guide is provided with every order, and our technical team supports your installer directly by email or WhatsApp if anything needs checking. Because the kit is fully reversible, the car can be returned to stock at any time without a trace.

Not sure which F30 kit you need?

Frequently asked questions — BMW 3 Series (F30)

Did any BMW F30 come with CarPlay from the factory?

Only a small number of late F30s, in certain markets, could be ordered with factory CarPlay — and it was a paid option, usually wired-only and tied to a subscription. The overwhelming majority of F30, F31, F34 and F35 cars have no CarPlay and no Android Auto at all.

How do I know which iDrive system my F30 has?

The fastest check is the iDrive menu design: NBT EVO runs the newer ID5 / ID6 layout with large horizontal tiles, while NBT uses the older grid. If you are unsure, send us a photo of your screen and menu and we will confirm the platform before you order.

Will the iDrive controller and steering-wheel buttons still work?

Yes. The kit decodes the CAN bus, so the rotary controller, touchpad (where fitted), steering-wheel buttons and console keys all keep working — both in the original iDrive menus and inside CarPlay / Android Auto.

Do I need to code or flash the car?

No. The kit works alongside the factory head unit without modifying its firmware, and no coding is required. Nothing in the process leaves a trace if the car is later returned to stock.

Does it work with the Harman Kardon or hi-fi amplifier?

Yes. The original audio path is retained, so the factory amplifier, speakers and microphone keep working exactly as before. Music from CarPlay and Android Auto plays through the original system.

Is the installation reversible?

Yes. The kit uses a plug-and-play T-harness and factory mounting points. No wires are cut, so the car can be reverted to stock at any time.
